Air Chief Marshal puts his first Group 1 winner on the board
Mont Ormel lands the Grand Prix de Paris for the Cauviniere resident
Young French sire Air Chief Marshal gained a first Group 1 winner on his progeny record on Thursday when son Mont Ormel scored by clear water in the Grand Prix de Paris over 1m4f at Saint-Cloud.
Trained by Pia Brandt for owner-breeder Gerard Augustin-Normand, Mont Ormel won the Listed Prix Ridgway by six and a half lengths on his last run, and this time saw off British challenger Red Verdon (by Lemon Drop Kid) by one and a quarter lengths, with the Sea The Stars colt Cloth Of Stars back in third.
It is perhaps a little surprising that could conjure a son who excels over 1m4f, as he was a three-time winner over 7f, including in the Group 3 Minstrel Stakes, and finished runner-up in the Phoenix Stakes over 6f at two.
