€1.4 million beauty Being There off the mark at Newmarket
The Goffs Orby sale-topper is the first foal of a French Classic winner
Many will have enjoyed the opportunity to get up close and personal with Dubawi during the annual Darley stallion parade on Friday lunchtime, and later in the day his two-year-old son Being There gave a timely reminder as to why the son of Dubai Millennium is considered the daddy at Dalham Hall.
The Charlie Appleby-trained colt had gone down by just a neck on debut, and he put that initial experience to good use as he held on gamely to deny newcomer Doswell by a head and break his maiden at the second time of asking.
Being There was bought for Godolphin by John Ferguson for the auction-topping sum of €1.4 million from the 2016 Goffs Orby Sale, when offered by The Castlebridge Consignment as part of the Wildenstein Stables dispersal.
He is the first foal out of the Wildenstein family's 2012 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Beauty Parlour, who was bred by the family when they sent the Listed-winning Giant's Causeway mare Bastet - a half-sister to Melbourne Cup winner Might And Power - to Japanese sire sensation Deep Impact.
Beauty Parlour herself also sold as part of the Wildenstein Stables dispersal, when going the way of Peter Brant's Whitebirch operation for €1.6m to top the Goffs November Breeding Stock.
She was offered in foal to Kingman, and sold alongside her Invincible Spirit half-sister Blue Kimono, who was offered in foal to Australia, who also went the way of Whitebirch for €675,000.
Among Brant's associates is Joseph Allen, who has owned talents such as War Front and Declaration Of War, as well as Friday's runner-up Doswell.
