Iconic Sky, a winning half-sister to Martello Sky, topped ThoroughBid's September Sale when making £50,000 to Longner Bloodstock.

Offered with her first foal, a filly by Jack Hobbs, at foot and in foal to Overbury Stud's new resident, the Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn, she was sold as part of the Beswick Brothers' dispersal of their bloodstock interests.

The nine-year-old is a winning daughter of Sixties Icon and is a half-sister to the Listed-placed pair of Mystic Sky and Brief Ambition, from the family of Royal Gait, who won the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak and Prix du Cadran as well as the Champion Hurdle.

In total, a dozen horses were offered by the Beswick Brothers during Friday's sale and they were a mixture of youngstock, horses in training and broodmares, with six of them selling.

Warwick Beswick pronounced himself pleased with proceedings, saying: "We’re very happy with the result of ThoroughBid’s September Sale. Every lot that sold hit or exceeded the target we had in mind, so we’re really pleased with it all."

The other five-figure transaction achieved at Friday's sale was also for a member of the Beswick Brothers' draft; a yearling three-parts brother to Chris's Dream, who won the Grade 2 Red Mills Novice Chase at Gowran and Navan's Ten Up Novice Chase and was second in the Grade 1 Down Royal Champion Chase for Henry de Bromhead.

Purchased by Ballymaw Bloodstock, the Mahler gelding is the first foal of Northern Girl, a winning Westerner half-sister to Scorpiancer, a triple Grade 1 winner in America.

Beswick added: “Iconic Sky topped the auction at £50,000 and, again, that’s exactly what we were looking for. She’s a beautiful mare with a nice future.”

The National Hunt section included a draft of three from Willie Mullins' Closutton Stables and they were headed by the £13,500 Dark Voyager.

A winner over hurdles and on the flat, and third in a Listed novice hurdle at Galway, the five-year-old is a Raven's Pass half-brother to the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle winner A Wave Of The Sea, and was purchased by Naren Shah.

The best price for A horse coming off the Flat was £16,500 and that was attained by Papa Don't Preach and I Am Incredible. The former is a three-year-old Kodiac gelding who was second in the Listed Prix Yacowlef and fourth in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes last season for Charlie Hills. Papa Don't Preach was purchased by Kevin Frost Racing.

Jessica Dupontfahn offered I Am Incredible, a two-year-old Pedro The Great three-parts sister to Listed Lanwades Stud Stakes winner Hateya, on behalf of her owner David Maughan. Successful over five and a half furlongs at Dieppe on her second start, and out of a half-sister to Mirror Lake from the Juddmonte family of multiple Grade 1 Ventura, I Am Incredible brought a winning bid of £16,500 from Domaine Billard Pere et Fils.

The father and son duo also struck at £11,500 for Top Daay, a daughter of Adaay out of a half-sister to the second dam of recent Group 1 Sprint Cup winner Minzaal. She was offered by Daniel Cooper on behalf of David Maughan.

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, reflected on a busy anniversary sale for the company, saying: "We’re delighted to have sold all three of the lots consigned by Willie Mullins, as well as getting two away for Charlie Hills in the shape of Spoof and Papa Don’t Preach, who were both bought by Kevin Frost.

"This sale marks a year since our first back in September 2021 and we’re delighted with the way things are progressing.”
