I Am Fortunata provides another significant debut winner for Mike Grech
Gelding topped the Goffs UK Summer Store Sale at £175,000
I Am Fortunata, who caused a stir when topping the 2020 Goffs UK Summer Store Sale at £175,000, completed a significant couple of days for Mike Grech by taking the concluding bumper at Thurles with an abundance of ease.
At Ludlow on Wednesday Fortunedefortunata had made a winning debut after recovering from a serious episode of colic, after which Grech's adviser Henrietta Knight explained that the gelding had been named after the owner's late mother.
The similarly named I Am Fortunata may well be an even better prospect as he thrashed the Willie Mullins-trained odds-on favourite O'Moore Park by 12 lengths. That more experienced individual had been bought for £240,000 after winning for Pat Doyle.
Gordon Elliott trains I Am Fortunata, a son of Getaway who was knocked down to Michael Moore for what he described as a new client for his Ballincurrig House Stud.

The five-year-old, previously bought for €65,000 by Cormac McCormac from breeder Sean Reilly as a foal from Tattersalls Ireland, is a sibling of four winners from as many runners under rules.
They are headed by Dawn Shadow, who won a Listed hurdle for Dot Love, and Flanking Maneuver, who also scored over hurdles a year ago before being well held by the top-class Bob Olinger in Grade 1 company.
His dam, Corskeagh Shadow, was a winner for Reilly and Love who is a Beneficial sister to that combination's very smart mare Shadow Eile, as well as the Grade 2 bumper winner Corskeagh Royale.
Grech's black and pink colours have also been seen to good effect recently via Brandy Love, who was second in the Grade 3 Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle a few days ago.
