Homerique and My Sister Nat the latest private purchases by Peter Brant
High-class French fillies will join the stables of Chad Brown
Peter Brant has enjoyed plenty of success with his European imports – not least former Prix de Diane runner-up Sistercharlie, now a triple Grade 1 winner and among the favourites for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf on Saturday – and the big-spending US owner has been busy restocking.
His latest private acquisitions, who will join Sistercharlie's handler Chad Brown, are the Francis-Henri Graffard-trained three-year-old fillies Homerique, winner of the Group 3 Prix de Psyche and third in the Prix de Diane and Prix de l'Opera, and My Sister Nat, a half-sister to Sistercharlie who was a keeping-on close sixth behind Homerique in the Opera on her last start.
Homerique, bred by Nicky and Francois Drion, has an American pedigree as a daughter of the late Three Chimneys resident Exchange Rate, also sire of European stars Reckless Abandon and Thundering Blue.
She is out of Chiquita Picosa, a winner on dirt by Congaree, and hails from the family of unbeaten Fillies' Mile heroine White Moonstone.
Broadhurst Agency signed for Homerique at €75,000 at last year's Arqana Breeze-Up Sale and the filly has carried the colours of Ecurie de Montlahuc.
My Sister Nat was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux out of the placed Galileo mare Starlet's Sister, and is only the dam's second foal after Sistercharlie.
The daughter of Acclamation was a €20,000 purchase by Paul Nataf at the Arqana February Sale in 2016, and raced for Gemini Stud.
As well as having bought Sistercharlie and now her half-sister My Sister Nat, Brant is also the owner of their two-year-old half-brother Sottsass – a son of Siyouni bought as a yearling for €340,000 who broke his maiden at Clairefontaine on Friday – and also the yearling half-brother by Charm Spirit sourced for €400,000 at Deauville in August.
Nataf, who was involved in the deal to sell My Sister Nat to Brant, told Jour de Galop: "[She] departed for America on Monday evening, in the company of Homerique.
“She will have a long break and be given time to acclimatise, and be prepared for her a reappearance in April or May.
“Peter Brant loves Sistercharlie so much that he wants to have all the family. The dam, Starlet's Sister, is an exceptional young broodmare. She has already produced two Group winners and the Siyouni two-year-old is also now a winner.
“Years ago, we also sold Triptych to Peter. But he told me that Sistercharlie was, for him, the filly of a lifetime!"
Brant was a major player in racing and breeding in the 1980s and 90s, having bred and owned Gulch and bred from Gulch his Kentucky Derby-winning son Thunder Gulch as well as campaigning Triptych.
After a spell out of the sport, he returned with a bang by hoovering up many of the choice lots in the Wildenstein dispersal at the Goffs November Sale in 2016.
His recent private purchases have also included Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Precieuse and fellow French Pattern scorers Barkaa and Pollara.
