Taunton-based breeder was close to another big win at Sandown on Saturday

Heather Dunn’s intention more than 30 years ago to breed a horse in the mould of Regal Flow and a major role in Sandown’s exhilarating finish to the Unibet Veterans' Handicap Chase has turned out to be only one page of what has become quite a jumping scrapbook.

Already a winner of the 2018 Midlands National, the sprightly 13-year-old went almost as close as possible to lifting another significant prize, finding himself back at the head of the field approaching the final fence as Jepeck was carried wide by a loose horse.

With another superannuated old favourite, Theatre Guide, rallying up the hill and three practically in a row as they crossed the line, it was the sort of battle which evoked memories of Special Cargo’s 1984 Whitbread, albeit in slower motion.
