Whitsbury Manor Stud resident Havana Grey has become a father for the first time with the arrival of two foals at the Hampshire operation.

The first, born on Tuesday, was a filly out of Anneani, a winning Bushranger half-sister to dual Listed scorer and Hungerford Stakes runner-up Coulsty.

“A bay filly with a lovely, pretty head,” was the verdict of Whitsbury Manor Stud director Ed Harper.

She was followed on Wednesday by a colt out of Foxcatcher, a winning Foxwedge half-sister to Chil The Kite and Pastoral Player, both successful in black-type company, from the family of ace sprinter Averti.

“He's a very strong colt with lots of bone,” reported Harper. “We haven’t weighed him yet, but he looks like he’d be nearing 60kg.

“We’re delighted that he’s a lovely stone grey as we’re keen to see how dominant Havana Grey is in throwing his colour. It looks like we’ll be getting a mixture of bays and greys from the early evidence.”

Havana Grey, from the first crop of Havana Gold, was sent out by Karl Burke to win six races including the Molecomb Stakes at two and the Flying Five at three.

He covered 145 mares in his debut season at Whitsbury Manor Stud in 2019 and is due to cover his second book of mares at a fee of £6,500.

This week's newborn Havana Grey foals are the first great-great-grandchildren through the male line of phenomenal sire Galileo.
