Gustav Klimt relocates to stand at Haras d'Annebault in France
Son of Galileo has produced several winners from his first crop of runners
Haras d'Annebault has announced it will stand first-season sire and Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner Gustav Klimt, a son of Galileo from the famed family of Invincible Spirit and Kodiac, for the 2023 season.
Gustav Klimt had retired to Coolmore for the 2019 breeding season and had previously spent the last three seasons at Castle Hyde Stud, standing this year for a fee of €4,000.
The seven-year-old's first yearlings sold for up to £60,000 in 2021, while he has produced a handful of winners from his first crop of juveniles including Listed Premio Criterium Varesino second Sopran Blakey and multiple scorers Kazzam and Bay Heaven.
Gustav Klimt was a high-class performer on the track for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners, winning on his second start at two at the Curragh before a narrow score in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
At three, the colt won the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on his seasonal reappearance before a sixth to stablemate Saxon Warrior in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
He did not win again that term but produced more fine efforts, including when third to Romanised in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, second to Without Parole in the St James's Palace Stakes and a third to The Tin Man in Haydock's Sprint Cup.
Gustav Klimt, bred on the same hugely potent Galileo-Danehill cross as the likes of Frankel and Teofilo, is the ninth foal out of Listed winner Massarra, a homebred of Prince Faisal. She is a daughter of the mighty race and broodmare Rafha, therefore making her a full-sister to Kodiac and a half-sister to Invincible Spirit among others.
Massarra has proven a more than able producer in the paddocks too, throwing seven black-type winners including Group 1 Gran Criterium winner Nayarra (by Cape Cross), Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes scorer Wonderfully, plus Listed winners Friendly, Cuff and Blissful (all by the late Galileo).
Cuff is in turn the dam of this year's promising Group 3 Killavullan Stakes winner Cairo, by Quality Road.
Gustav Klimt will be offered to breeders at a fee of €3,500.
