German stud to allow breeders to set their own fee for Millowitsch
Gestut Rottgen asking mare owners to 'pay what he's worth to you'
German stud Gestut Rottgen is to take the unusual step of allowing breeders to "pay what he's worth to you" to send their mares to Millowitsch for the 2020 breeding season.
"That's right," Rottgen stud manager Frank Dorff told GaloppOnline.de. "The only requirement is that the mares are healthy, but that's no different with other stallions."
The five-time German Group winner by Sehrezad commanded a €3,500 fee for the 2019 breeding season.
Rottgen hopes that its new incentive will result in the six-year-old Millowitsch receiving significantly more mares next year, and is strongly encouraging smaller breeders to take up the offer.
Two leading German stallions have had their fees announced for next year - Gestut Etzean stallion Areion will cover a limited book of mares at a €12,500 fee at the age of 25, while Gestut Schlenderhan resident Adlerflug will be available at a special fee of €10,000 for next year only.
