Flag Of Honour's Irish St Leger win puts star level with his great sire
Galileo matched his sire Sadler's Wells' mark of 73 worldwide Group/Grade 1 winners as Flag Of Honour won Sunday's Comer Group International Irish St Leger at the Curragh.
Coolmore's perennial champion sire has long been closing the gap on his sire is now positioned not only to comfortably eclipse his father but to take aim at Danehill's tally of 84 and add another layer to an already remarkable legacy.
On a day in which Galileo had several chances to reach the milestone, it was the stayer Flag Of Honour who finally did the honours, putting in a brave and timely performance, given the recent retirement of another of Galileo's Group 1 heroes, Order Of St George.

Galileo, who has stood for a private fee at Coolmore Stud in Ireland since 2008, has been represented by Flat runners worldwide who have brought in more than £70 million in prize-money.
The majority of his Group 1 winners struck for the first time in Great Britain, with Frankel leading a total of 31, while 29 came in Ireland, 20 in France and 11 in the USA.
A further seven came in Australia, while he has also struck in Hong Kong, Dubai, Canada, Italy and South Africa. His 73 Group 1 winners won a total of 155 top level contests.
