Galileo aims another three-pronged attack at the fillies' Classic

DABAN

Daban is by Rathbarry Stud stalwart Acclamation, an exceptional source of two-year-old talent and sprinters – see Dark Angel, Equiano, Marsha, Mehmas and so on – but who has made little impact on the Classics.

In fact, even though Daban hails from the sire's tenth three-year-old crop, he has only ever had one representative in either the 1,000 or 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and that was Talwar, a tailed-off last to Camelot in 2012. (Credit where it is due, though: Acclamation was damsire of last year's 2,000 Guineas runner-up Massaat.)

In Daban's favour is her maternal pedigree, which is replete with high-class performers. She is a half-sister to last year's Thoroughbred Stakes winner Thikriyaat out of Malaspina, a placed daughter of the well-bred stallion Whipper. Malaspina is a half-sister to Johnny Barnes (also by Acclamation), a Group 3 winner over a mile, Albisola, a Group 3 winner over 1m2f, and to the dam of Group 1-winning half-brothers Ectot and Most Improved.

What does the dam have next? A two-year-old colt by Pour Moi named Para Mio in training with Seamus Durack; a yearling filly by Acclamation; a filly foal by Free Eagle born on Thursday.

Frankel-African Rose (Observatory)

One of two in the race from the first crop of Frankel, whose extraordinary demolition of the 2,000 Guineas field was one of 14 victories in his unbeaten career. Frankel has set tongues wagging again with the bright start made by his debut runners – including his daughter Soul Stirring, a Grade 1 winner at two in Japan who was a close third in that country's 1,000 Guineas last month.

Fair Eva is a half-sister to Hakka, a dual winner at around a mile, out of African Rose, best known for winning the Group 1 Sprint Cup but also a close third over a mile in two Group 3 contests at two. African Rose is a sister to Helleborine, a Group 3 winner over a mile and second in the Prix Marcel Boussac over that trip at two, out of New Orchid, a daughter of Derby hero Quest For Fame who was Group-placed over 1m4f.

What does the dam have next? A two-year-old colt by Frankel named Herculean in training with Roger Charlton; a yearling colt by Kingman.

HYDRANGEA

Galileo-Beauty Is Truth (Pivotal)

A winner of the 1,000 Guineas was one of the few holes left in the CV of Coolmore kingpin Galileo until last year, when he well and truly laid that demon to rest by siring the first three home – Minding, Ballydoyle and Alice Springs. It is not out of the question that Galileo could repeat the feat this year, with Hydrangea one of three by the sire in the first five in the betting along with favourite Rhododendron and the gambled-on Winter.

Hydrangea is another example of breeders sending speedy mares to Galileo, a recipe whose success has been shown by Frankel, Churchill, Cape Blanco and many others. She is out of the Pivotal mare Beauty Is Truth, winner of the Group 2 Prix du Gros-Chene over the minimum trip. The dam has already produced The United States, a Group 1 winner over 1m2f in Australia, when matched with Galileo and has also clicked with Dansili to produce the high-class two-year-old and sprinter Fire Lily.

Further back this is the fine Kilfrush Stud family of French 1,000 Guineas winners Tie Black and Valentine Waltz, while Beauty Is Truth's half-sister Glorious Sight was second in that race.

RHODODENDRON

Galileo-Halfway To Heaven (Pivotal)

If Rhododendron confirms the promise of her impressive Fillies' Mile victory in the 1,000 Guineas, she could join the list of illustrious daughters of Galileo that includes Alice Springs, Found, Galikova, Lush Lashes and Minding.

Because Galileo has sired so many horses of such a high calibre, it can be taken as read that all of his runners now will have impeccable pedigrees. Even so, Rhododendron's page takes some beating.

She is a sister to Flying The Flag, a Group 3 winner over 1m2f, out of Halfway To Heaven, winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Nassau Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes. That Halfway To Heaven was able to stretch to 1m2f for the Nassau Stakes was quite remarkable, as her parents, Pivotal and Cassandra Go, were both high-class sprinters who excelled over half that distance.

Halfway To Heaven is a half-sister to the smart sprinters Tickled Pink and Theann, the last of whom produced Photo Call, a dual Grade 1 winner over a mile to 1m2f in the US, to Galileo.

TALAAYEB

Dansili-Rumoush (Rahy)

Talaayeb - a daughter of Dansili, who already has one 1,000 Guineas winner on his record in Miss France – may be only a once-raced maiden scorer but she has arguably the best pedigree in the field, with several relatives who have acquitted themselves well in the Classics.

Her dam Rumoush won the Feilden Stakes and was third in the Oaks, and has also produced Royal Lodge Stakes third Muntazah. Rumoush is a half-sister to Ghanaati, who won the 1,000 Guineas on the back of a maiden victory, Champion Stakes second Mawatheeq and to the dam of Maqaasid, who ran third in the 1,000 Guineas.

Sarayir, the dam of Rumoush, is a Listed-winning half-sister to 2,000 Guineas and Derby hero Nashwan, and top-class talents Nayef and Unfuwain. Height Of Fashion, the dam of Sarayir and co, was a Princess of Wales's Stakes winner out of the Queen's 1,000 Guineas and French Oaks heroine Highclere.

WINTER

Galileo-Laddies Poker Two (Choisir)

Winter, the third Galileo filly going for Guineas glory at Newmarket, is out of Laddies Poker Two, who will be best remembered for landing a huge gamble by taking the Wokingham Handicap after a long lay-off at Royal Ascot in 2010.

Laddies Poker Two would be a rarity among the mares covered by Galileo nowadays, as she may have earned a Racing Post Rating of 114 but she has no black type and neither do any of her siblings or dam. She is a half-sister to useful sprint handicapper Chooseday out of a half-sister to Gimcrack Stakes second Ma Yoram.

Laddies Poker Two is a daughter of Choisir and the early signs are suggesting he could be a notable broodmare sire. His daughters have already produced Prince of Wales's Stakes winner My Dream Boat, high-class filly Persuasive and Italian Group 3 scorer Fontanelice.

BEST OF THE REST

Queen Kindly has finished midfield twice since winning the Lowther Stakes but if the betting was based on pedigree alone she would be among the favourites. She is by Frankel out of high-class sprinter Lady Of The Desert, who in turn is out of the brilliant Queen's Logic, who would surely have taken a hand in the 1,000 Guineas in 2002 but for injury-enforced retirement. Queen's Logic is a half-sister to Homecoming Queen, a nine-length winner of the 1,000 Guineas.

Intricately, bred on the same Fasnet Rock-Galileo cross as Oaks heroine Qualify, is out of a half-sister to brilliant miler Rock Of Gibraltar, while Unforgettable Filly is speedily bred, from the first crop of Australian champion juvenile Sepoy and a half-sister to three 6-7f winners out of a 6-7f winner. She might just take some pegging back if the going remains fast.
