Gainesway's Tapizar relocating to stand at Yushun Stallion Station
The son of Tapit has sired Kentucky Oaks and Breeders' Cup heroine Monomoy Girl
Tapizar, a son of the great Tapit and the sire of Kentucky Oaks and dual Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Monomoy Girl will stand at Yushun Stallion Station in Japan for 2021.
The 12-year-old, a winner of the San Fernando Stakes and Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile in 2012, has been standing at Gainesway in Kentucky since his retirement in 2013 but will arrive in Japan in mid-January.
Tapizar's main claim to fame as a stallion comes through his hugely talented daughter in Monomoy Girl. The five-year-old, who was sold at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Foals & Mares Sale for an eye-watering $9.5 million to Spendthrift, will stay in training next year.
Trained by Brad Cox, she has won ten of her 12 starts to date including the Kentucky and American Oaks in 2018 - seeing off Midnight Bisou in the process - plus the two Breeders' Cup Distaffs and the La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs in September.
Tapizar - who currently stands for a fee of $10,000 - is also responsible for Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes victress Amalfi Coast and the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks scorer Project Whiskey.
Bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, Tapizar is out of the unraced Deputy Minister mare Winning Call and is the third of her four foals to hit the track.
