Former top North American freshman sire Overanalyze sold to Korea
Son of Dixie Union has supplied eight black-type winners
Fourth-crop stallion and 2017's leading North American freshman sire Overanalyze has been sold to the Korea Thoroughbred Breeders Association, according to the Korea Racing Authority.
KRA records show the ten-year-old son of Dixie Union was imported to South Korea on April 10. WinStar Farm, where Overanalyze entered stud in 2014, has first right of refusal should the horse ever be offered for sale later, according to the Kentucky farm.
Overanalyze was a Grade 1 winner for Repole Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher, earning four wins out of 11 starts that included victories in the 2013 Arkansas Derby, 2012 Remsen Stakes, and Futurity Stakes.
He started in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes but was unplaced in both Classic races.
The late trainer/agent JJ Crupi picked out Overanalyze for owner Mike Repole for $380,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment. The colt retired with $1,046,381 in earnings.
As a stallion, Overanalyze got off to a fast start with his first crop including four black-type winners and two Graded-placed winners that helped make the stallion 2017's leading North American freshman sire with $1,646,764 in progeny earnings.
He stayed in the top ten of his sire class as a second-crop sire with $2,720,926 in progeny earnings.
So far, Overanalyze has sired eight black-type winners and 12 black-type-placed performers. His runners have collectively earned nearly $8.9 million and have earned $43,798 on average per starter.
His top US performer to date is Grade 1 winner Hog Creek Hustle, who won the 2019 Woody Stephens Stakes and was runner-up in three other Graded stakes including the H Allen Jerkens Stakes.
Hog Creek Hustle is still racing and has accumulated $615,800 in purses so far.
Overanalyze recently returned from stud duty at Haras Don Alfredo in Uruguay where he was part of an initiative to improve the country's breeding programme.
Uruguay's national breeders organisation, Asociacion de Criadores del Caballo Puro de Carrera del Uruguay, and the federal Direccion General de Casinos, which oversees Maroñas Racetrack and all casinos, teamed up to attract a top US stallion, according to a report by Turf Diario. The government-funded initiative selected Overanalyze, who was expected to breed 120 mares last year.
