Shadwell's high-class sprinter and first-season sire Tasleet was provided with his first winner when Carmela came home impressively in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Yarmouth on Tuesday.

Bred by Austin Curran, the Royal Ascot-bound two-year-old sold to Compas Equine and trainer David Loughnane from Galbertstown Stud for £37,000 at last year's Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale. She runs in the silks of The Many Saints.

Carmela is the second foal out of the unraced New Approach mare Jayla - a half-sister to four winners including Czech Republic Group 3-placed Jir Sun and out of stakes winner Jira, a close relation to King Edward VII Stakes scorer Plea Bargain and a half-sister to Winter Hill Stakes victress Lay Time.

Jira, who is also a half-sibling to Prix des Chenes second Dubai Time, is out of Time Saved, a Green Desert sister to stakes performer Illusion and a half-sister to two Jockey Club Stakes victors in Zinaad and Time Allowed, as well as By Charter, the dam of Lonsdale Cup hero First Charter.

Time Saved is a daughter of the illustrious Time Charter, the winner of the Oaks, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Champion Stakes, Sun Chariot Stakes and Coronation Cup.

Tasleet stands at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud for £5,000.

A son of Showcasing out of a Cadeaux Genereux half-sister to brilliant sprinter Battaash, the nine-year-old was a consistently high-class sprinter himself during his career for William Haggas, winning the Duke of York Stakes and placing in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Haydock Sprint Cup and British Champions Sprint Stakes.
