Gold Cup and St Leger hero Leading Light got off the mark at stud when his first-crop son Bravo Buddy won the four and five-year-old flat maiden at the East Cornwall point-to-point at Great Trethew on Sunday.

Bravo Buddy is trained by Robert Chanin and kept on well under Tom Chanin to deny the runner-up Grumpy Freya by a short head.

As well as steering Bravo Buddy to victory, the winning rider purchased the four-year-old gelding for €3,000 at last year's Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale.

"Bravo Buddy was only broken last August and is a likely hurdler," Robert Chanin told pointtopoint.co.uk.

Bravo Buddy was bred by Laurence G Kennedy out of the Supreme Leader mare Second Best, an unraced half-sister to the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices' Hurdle winner St Pirran and granddaughter of the noted National Hunt broodmare Minorette, who is also the granddam of Shotgun Willy and Mini Sensation.

Leading Light, who landed the St Leger in 2013 and the Gold Cup a year later, stands for a €3,000 fee at Grange Stud and has also been represented by the useful bumper performers Light Brigade and Light Em Up Nigel.
