First racecourse test for Sky Lantern's second offspring Noonday Gun
Dubawi colt takes aim in the 1m2f maiden at Pontefract on Tuesday
Brilliant miler Sky Lantern, who chalked up four wins at the highest level for her trainer Richard Hannon snr, will have her second runner on Tuesday when Noonday Gun makes his debut in the 1m2f maiden at Pontefract (12.15).
The Dubawi colt was retained by owners Simon and Ben Keswick of Rockcliffe Stud for 625,000gns when offered by Highclere Stud as a yearling at Tattersalls in 2018, and will be ridden in the familar navy and white silks by Sean Levey.
Trained by Richard Hannon jnr, the grey Noonday Gun could be given most to do by the smartly performed Australia colt Crystal Pegasus, while the €2 million Galileo filly Luck On Sunday will look to build on her debut fifth at Newcastle last month.
Sky Lantern ran out an easy winner of the Moyglare Stud Stakes at two and hit top gear during her Classic year when landing the 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes and Sun Chariot.
Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, the Red Clubs mare was retired to Rockcliffe Stud in October 2014 and is also the dam of two-year-old Frankel filly Snow Lantern, a yearling Galileo colt and March-born colt foal by Kingman.
Her first produce Gentile Bellini, a year-older full-brother to Noonday Gun, set the Park Paddocks sales ring alight when hammered down to MV Magnier, Mayfair Speculators and Peter and Ross Doyle for 2,000,000gns as a yearling in 2017 and later struck in a Cork maiden as a three-year-old.
