First Graded winner for Arctic Cosmos through Waitnsee at Cork
The St Leger winner stands at Old Road Stud
The Old Road Stud's Irish Cosmos claimed a first Graded winner with a member of his first crop from 2014 as Waitnsee gained due reward for several other near-misses in the BARONERACING.COM Chase at Cork.
John Ryan's mare, who had two minor scores at Ballinrobe and Tramore to her name, had run some far better efforts in defeat, chasing home the smart Galvin on two occasions and being run out of it by Home By The Lee in another Grade 3 at this track last November.
Waitnsee looked in deep trouble after the second last fence with Spyglass Hill in full control but a blunder by her rival at the final obstacle saw Kevin Brouder receive another bite of the cherry and his mount scooted past on the run-in to score by four and a half lengths.
Arctic Cosmos made a flying start three years ago with a winner from his first National Hunt runner with Philip Hobbs' useful-looking novice hurdler Stellar Magic one of a few winners to emerge since then.
The son of North Light, who captured the 2010 St Leger for John Gosden, has been at James Hannon's Old Road since his retirement and was priced up at €2,500 by the Tallow, County Waterford operation for this year.
