Fine start for Taghrooda's son Israr with eyecatching Doncaster success
The Shadwell homebred is the second winner out of the brilliant mare
Shadwell and John Gosden combined to huge success with the great Taghrooda and the same team could have another exciting prospect on their hands with Israr, a son of the Oaks and King George-winning daughter of Sea The Stars.
Having swerved markedly right on leaving the stalls in the mile British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at Doncaster on Wednesday, the son of Nunnery Stud resident Muhaarar was settled towards the rear of the field before coming home with a flourish to beat Savvy Victory and Frantastic, a full-brother to dual Champion Stakes scorer Cracksman.
The two-year-old is the third foal out of Taghrooda, who has produced the unraced Kingman filly Jahafil and the dual-winning Dubawi colt Almighwar, and who also has a yearling colt by Dubawi and a filly foal by Kingman. She was covered by Lope De Vega this year.
Taghrooda is out of the stakes-winning and Group 2-placed Ezima, a daughter of Sadler's Wells and Ezilla, an unraced Darshaan full-sister to Ebaziya, the Aga Khan's prolific producer and dam of Group 1 winners Enzeli, Edabiya, Ebadiyla and Estimate.
The winner of a September Newmarket maiden on her sole start at two, Taghrooda graduated to the black-type ranks with a six-length win in the Pretty Polly Stakes at HQ before her ready success in the Oaks at Epsom.
Taking on the colts for the first time in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, she came home three lengths in front of runaway Hardwicke Stakes scorer Telescope and Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram.
Turned over at short odds by Tapestry in the Yorkshire Oaks, she finished her career with a respectable third place behind Treve in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Israr hails from the third crop of Muhaarar, a son of Oasis Dream who blitzed four Group 1 sprints including the July Cup and British Champions Sprint Stakes in 2015 for Shadwell and Charlie Hills.
A son of Oasis Dream and the stakes-placed Tahrir, a Linamix half-sister to the classy Mister Sacha, the nine-year-old has sired six black-type winners to date including Horris Hill Stakes winner Mujbar and Buckhounds Stakes scorer and Yorkshire Oaks second Albaflora.
