Fees for new boys Tasleet and Poet's Word revealed as Nunnery issues tariff
Exciting prospect Muhaarar remains at £30,000
High-class sprinter Tasleet, new to the roster at Nunnery Stud next year, is being introduced to breeders at a fee of £6,000, while dual Group 1 hero Poet's Word, who is also retiring to the operation in Norfolk, has been assigned a debut price of £7,000.
Champion sprinter Muhaarar, whose first yearlings have lit up the sale ring in recent months, will stand his fourth consecutive season at Nunnery Stud at £30,000.
Completing the stud's fees for 2019, Mukhadram and Nayef will stand at £6,000 and £5,000 respectively.
Reflecting on the two newcomers to Nunnery, Shadwell Stud director Richard Lancaster said: “Tasleet was a high-class sprinter, winning stakes races at two, three and four. He was also second in three Group 1s, so a fee of £6,000 represents outstanding value for a son of red-hot sire Showcasing who is from the immediate family of star sprinter Battaash.
“He’s a neat, good-moving horse, who is a perfect fit for the commercial market.
“Poet's Word also represents great value. He was arguably Europe’s leading middle-distance performer this year, especially when you consider he is the only horse to defeat Cracksman in 2018.
"He followed that emphatic win in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes with an equally impressive performance in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
“It’s important to remember there are several smart juveniles in his pedigree, including Prestige Stakes winner Malabar as well as Beckford, who won the Group 2 Railway Stakes before finishing second in a pair of Group 1s – the Phoenix Stakes and National Stakes. He also hails from the family of Group 1 sire Inchinor.”
Muhaarar's yearlings have sold for an average of around £185,000 across Europe this year, hitting a high of 925,000gns for a half-sister to Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Fairyland at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
The son of Oasis Dream has been strongly supported by breeders in his early years at stud, and his debut book of mares included 72 black-type performers.
“The first crop of yearlings by Muhaarar have been extremely well received, a point emphasised by the wonderful figures his offspring have achieved across all the key European sales this year,” said Lancaster.
“We could have easily adjusted his fee on the back of this year’s sales, but we’ll reassess it at the end of next season.
"While the results at the sales give everyone tremendous satisfaction, it means nothing if his two-year-olds don’t deliver on the racecourse next year.”
All Nunnery Stud fees are on January 1, special live foal, terms.
