Fasig-Tipton stalwart and long-time auctioneer Steve Dance dies aged 78

Steve Dance, a senior member of Fasig-Tipton’s auction team for five decades, has died at the age of 78 after an apparent heart attack at his home in Jarrettsville, Maryland.

Dance first became involved with Fasig-Tipton when befriending John Finney and Larry Ensor, all subsequent luminaries of the auction, and he was to become a full-time auctioneer and bid spotter for the company in 1972.

He did not miss any Fasig-Tipton auction in a career which lasted for 50 years.

Dance also had a passion for BMW motorcycles and owned up to 20 at one point while riding them all over North America, from Alaska to New York and Florida. He also owned Milton J Dance Auction Company, a Towson company started up by his grandfather, which sold everything from pots to antiques.

Having married his wife Nancy in 2011, Dance leaves behind two daughters Erica and Whitney, his son Lee, stepdaughter with Nancy, Layne, and three brothers, Andy, Scott and Tom.
