Eyecatching pedigrees galore in September Yearling Sale catalogue
Auction graduate Soffia landed the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes on Sunday
Tattersalls Ireland has tightened up the numbers for its September Yearling Sale this year with 480 yearlings set to be offered across the first two days, 80 less than last year, while 253 are listed for part two of the sale, a reduction of 32.
There appears to be no shortage on quality, however, with Lodge Park Stud the vendor of a Muhaarar half-brother (213) to five-time Group 1 winner Sole Power, who appears twice on the rolls of honour of the King's Stand and Nunthorpe Stakes.
The pair's half-sister Sotka has placed in stakes company and is the dam the high-class sprinter Fas.
Brookville Farm has a sibling to a Classic winner on its hands, with a Harzand half-sister (320) to Jet Setting, who notably claimed the scalp of Minding in the memorable Irish 1,000 Guineas of 2016.
Pier House Stud, meanwhile, has an Epaulette (399) half-brother to Group 1 juvenile winner Capla Temptress on its books.
Last year's sale was topped by the Kodiac colt out of Lady Lucia from Grove Stud. The late April foal was purchased by Shadwell for €275,000 and has since been named .
The sale received a timely boost on Sunday when 2016 graduate Soffia struck in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh.
Owned by Lady O'Reilly, Soffia was purchased for €52,000 by BBA Ireland from Grove Stud at Fairyhouse in 2016, and the four-year-old Kyllachy filly completed a stakes hat-trick having won the Listed Sprint Stakes at Naas and Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at the Curragh in May and June.
Other graduates include the US Grade 2 winner Beau Recall, the dual Hong Kong Group 1 winner Time Warp and recent Group 3 Munster Oaks scorer Who's Steph. This year's Albany Stakes runner-up Celtic Beauty was also acquired by Dermot Farrington for €52,000 last September.
The first part of sale will take place over two days on Tuesday, September 24, and Wednesday, September 25, while part two will follow a day later on Thursday, September 26. Selling will commence at 10am each day.
All yearlings catalogued and offered at this year's September Yearling Sale are eligible for the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes next year.
