Exciting point-to-point maiden winners headline Goffs Punchestown Sale
Buyers on the hunt for the next Honeysuckle after racing on Thursday
Buyers will be paying close attention to the six fillies and mares catalogued for Thursday's Goffs Punchestown Sale, hoping that among them will be a diamond like Honeysuckle, who adorns the cover of the catalogue.
Colin Bowe's Milestone Stables consigns Jenny Wyse (lot14), who immediately went into the notebook after her debut success at Monksgrange on Sunday.
The Flemensfirth four-year-old is the first foal out of Morning Edition, an unraced King's Theatre sister to Grade 3-winning hurdler Morning Run and a half-sister to Listed winner Morning Supreme.
Mellificent (7) likewise made quite the first impression at Fairyhouse last week, finishing fast to claim second in a bumper for Lorna Fowler. The Fame And Glory five-year-old is out of the Listed-placed Mise En Place and is offered on behalf of the Tyrell family.
Matthew Flynn O'Connor consigns a pair of debut four-year-old maiden winners. Wrappedupinmay (13) is an Ocovango half-brother to Listed-winning hurdler Mrs Hyde out of Funny Times, a Listed bumper winner who is a half-sister to the dam of Relegate, successful in the 2018 Champion Bumper for Willie Mullins.
Flynn O'Connor's Flemensfirth four-year-old gelding, The Gooner (6), was another to catch the eye when winning at Curraghmore and he is out of a half-sister to Dont Tell No One.
Warren Ewing produced superstar Constitution Hill to finish second on his debut in April last year before selling him to Nicky Henderson at Goffs UK, and his Bernice Stables offers two exciting prospects at Punchestown.
Sunday's Fairyhouse winner First Venture (9) is by Soldier Of Fortune and her second dam is a sister to Grade 1 winner Rhinestone Cowboy and to the dam of Drinmore winner Coney Island. She is also a half-sister to Wichita Lineman, victorious in the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle and twice at the Cheltenham Festival.
Ewing also offers the first horse into the ring, Rock My Way (1), a five-year-old Getaway grandson of Lanzarote Hurdle third Miss Fara.
Don'tstopbelievin (10) won the four-year-old maiden at Monksgrange on Sunday for Sam Curling, and the Champs Elysees gelding is a grandson of Like-A-Butterfly, whose Grade 1 haul included Punchestown's Champion Bumper.
Two late additions to the sale will definitely draw attention - Tuesday's impressive Goffs Land Rover Bumper winner Absolute Notions (21) and runner-up Miss Agusta (20) have been handed wildcard entries.
The son of Milan is a potential sale-topper for Micheal Conaghan in whose colours he made a winning debut by six-and-a-half-lengths.
The sale takes place in the Punchestown winner's enclosure after racing on Thursday night.
