The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association has opened the nomination process for its stud employee award.

The honour, sponsored by New England Stud, aims to recognise the significant contribution that stud staff make to the breeding industry and to reward those who have shown dedication and excellence in their role.

The award winner will be selected from six shortlisted candidates and will receive a £2,000 cash prize, a perpetual trophy in the form of a Charlie Langton bronze and a memento.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the TBA Flat breeders’ awards evening has been cancelled in 2020. So the award winner will be selected from six shortlisted candidates and will be presented with their trophy at their place of work, when lockdown restrictions allow.

The remaining five shortlisted nominees will be given £250 in recognition of their achievement.

Nominations can be made by completing the online nomination form on the TBA website, which also features further details including the terms and conditions of the award.

Paper copies of the nomination forms are available on request from the TBA office.

Nominations close on Friday, June 12, an extended deadline due to the coronavirus crisis.

Last year's winner of the TBA stud staff award was Christopher Wilby of Juddmonte Farms. He joined the operation in 2004 as a stud hand, having spent the previous 20 years working for a farming company.

He then had spells at Bloomsbury Stud and Lanwades Stud before re-joining Juddmonte in September 2013, when he was appointed second man at Banstead Manor Stud.
