The German Oaks received a ringing endorsement for the second time in only a few days when Disco Fever shimmied her way to a convincing victory in the Ladbrokes Where The Nation Plays EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes at Lingfield.

John Gosden and Lady Bamford’s Oasis Dream juvenile is a daughter of the British-bred Penelopa, who gained her finest hour in the 2013 Preis Der Diana, the German Classic run at Dusseldorf.

The mare’s racing owners Litex Commerce has continued with breeding from her and Disco Fever, her second foal but the first to have appeared on the track, was knocked down to Hugo Lascelles for 260,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2017.

Disco Fever had caught the eye on her debut at Kempton a fortnight ago and had no trouble justifying favouritism by five lengths here.

There was a far more lucrative win for the progeny of another German Oaks heroine, the previous year’s winner Salomina, in Japan over the weekend.

The Lomitas mare has produced a handful of Asian-bred foals and her two-year-old Heart’s Cry son Salios took the Grade 1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin with some authority under Ryan Moore.

Penelopa, who is by Giant’s Causeway, was responsible for another eye-catching purchase at the 2017 Foal Sale when her Frankel filly consigned by Britton House Stud was sold to Blandford Bloodstock for 450,000gns. She produced a Muhaarar filly on March 29 this year and was covered by Showcasing.

Gosden, who has been plundering so many of the all-weather juvenile events lately, also took the Ladbrokes Home Of The Odds Boost EBF Novice Stakes later on.

Shimmering, who was similarly building on a promising debut, is by Lope De Vega from a good Lloyd-Webber family including the stakes-placed Crystany and Treasury Devil.
