David Redvers named Bloodstock Agent of the Year
Qatar Racing's racing manager selected champion Roaring Lion
David Redvers, racing manager to Sheikh Fahad Al Thani's Qatar Racing operation, received the 2018 Agent of the Year award at Tattersalls on Friday.
Redvers - who was selected by Geoffrey Howson, president of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents - has enjoyed a year to remember with his purchases, having unearthed Lightning Spear, a 260,000gns yearling, and Roaring Lion, a $160,000 buy, who won a total of five Group 1s between them during the 2018 campaign.
"I'm very flattered to receive the award," said Redvers. "Geoffrey was actually the first person I worked for at the sales. I spent a few December sales spotting for him - he's been a mother hen for many of us.
"I must stress that none of this could've been done without Hannah Wall and Peter Molony. We have a great team and a great system in place. It was Hannah who found Roaring Lion, she made a beeline for him telling us that he was the best-looking and best-moving Kitten's Joy she'd seen since Hawkbill. Without her, we wouldn't have got him.
"The Irish Champion Stakes was the race where we really knew we had something different. The whole race was run to make things difficult for him but he overcame the adversity. What is so remarkable about him is that he knew what he was there to do."
Roaring Lion and Lightning Spear, both of whom will stand at Redvers' Tweenhills Stud next year, will be available to view alongside Hot Streak at Longholes Stud in Newmarket during next week's December Mare Sale. Tweenhills' other new addition, exciting Australian import Zoustar, arrives on December 20 and will be available to view during an open day at the stud in January.
