Cracksman and Saxon Warrior nominations part of Tattersalls RoR auction
Nominations to high profile newcomers Cracksman and Saxon Warrior will be auctioned at Tattersalls on the eve of the December Mare Sale to raise funds for the Retraining Of Racehorses (RoR) charity.
The champagne reception and auction, compered by Nick Luck, will be held in the sales ring at the Newmarket venue on Sunday, December 2, where nine nominations will be auctioned by the chairman of Tattersalls, Edmond Mahony.
As well as those for Cracksman and Saxon Warrior, nominations to established names such as Oasis Dream and Nathaniel will be on offer.
Tweenhills Stud newcomer Lightning Spear will also feature, as will nominations to four Cheveley Park Stud stallions in Garswood, Mayson, Twilight Son and Unfortunately.
Di Arbuthnot, chief executive of RoR, said: "We are incredibly grateful to the stud farms who have shown their support for the charity by donating nominations to stallions.
"Thanks to their generosity, the quality of stallions on offer is remarkable and I have no doubt that the nine lots being auctioned will be of great interest to breeders, with the added bonus that their investment goes to a good cause.
"Special thanks must go to Edmond Mahony and the Board of Tattersalls for their support and for hosting the event on the eve of one of the biggest sales in Europe. There is increasing awareness amongst the auction houses and breeders of the work RoR does in providing fulfilling second careers for thoroughbreds when their racing days are over. As we all know, not every horse gets to retire to stud."
Mahony added: "We are delighted to again be hosting such a worthwhile event on the eve of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale. The stallion farms have been enormously generous in their support and it looks set to be an enjoyable curtain raiser to Europe’s premier breeding stock sale."
The champagne reception gets underway from 4.30pm, with the auction of nine nominations from 5.00pm. For more information on the auction lots and to make a bid, email pgilmore@ror.org.uk.
