Supremacy followed in the footsteps of his sire Mehmas when landing the Group 2 Qatar Richmond Stakes for trainer Clive Cox and breeder Kangyu International Racing at Goodwood on Thursday.

The two-year-old colt is one of 14 winners already posted by Tally-Ho Stud's first-season sire Mehmas and the second to strike at black-type level, following Listed Rose Bowl Stakes scorer Method.

Not only does Supremacy hail from a burgeoning sire line, but he is also from a female family that Cox has already enjoyed considerable success with. He is the third foal out of Triggers Broom, a placed daughter of Arcano bred by Paul McCartan at his Ballyphilip Stud.

In turn, Triggers Broom is a half-sister to Xtension, winner of the Vintage Stakes for Cox before he joined the all-conquering stables of John Moore in Hong Kong, where the son of Xaar recorded back-to-back victories in The BMW Champions' Mile.

Xtension and Triggers Broom, a £50,000 yearling and 110,000gns broodmare prospect, also count Beatrix Potter among their siblings.

The daughter of Cadeaux Genereux is best known as the dam of Harry Angel, who Cox bought for £44,000 before proceeding to win the July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup with the fleet-footed son of Dark Angel.

Beatrix Potter has also produced Mill Reef Stakes scorer Pierre Lapin.

Cox picked up Supremacy at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, where he gave £65,000 when the colt was offered by Owenstown Stud.

He becomes the latest winner to showcase his trainer's eye for talent at the sales, as Cox has also bought the likes of Golden Horde, winner of the Commonwealth Cup and last year's Richmond Stakes, for £65,000, Middle Park Stakes scorer Reckless Abandon for £24,000 and dual Group 1 winner Lethal Force for €8,500.

A Group 2 success for Mehmas was not the only reason the O'Callaghan family of Tally-Ho Stud had to celebrate at Goodwood on Thursday, as Spirit Of Bermuda, who the operation sold to John and Jake Warren for 210,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Sale, made a winning debut in the British European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

The two-year-old filly became a first domestic winner for Cheveley Park Stud's first-season sire Twilight Son.

Mehmas also notched a double on the Goodwood card when Acklam Express registered his second career success in the concluding Tatler Nursery Handicap.
