The recent re-emergence from hibernation by Andre Fabre's stable should mean plenty of well-bred youngsters to run in the coming weeks and months.

Gaidar, a newcomer for the perennial French champion at Chantilly on Tuesday, very much fits in that mould.

Although already gelded, the Churchill three-year-old is from one of the most prestigious families belonging to Gestut Ammerland.

His dam, the Danehill mare Grey Lilas, was placed in two French Classics in 2004 and went on to Group 1 honours in the Prix du Moulin.

Fabre has been sent plenty of her offspring and managed the same trick with Golden Lilac (by Churchill's sire Galileo) who landed the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and the Prix de Diane seven years later, as well as taking the following year's Prix d'Ispahan.

Grey Lilac has produced seven winners of various types including Grey Lion, a Group 3 winner in Australia, and Golden Guepard, who struck at Listed level in France.

Gairdar, who starts off in the third race on the card, a maiden over an extended nine furlongs, has a two-year-old Lope De Vega half-brother still in the pipeline.
