Super-sire Deep Impact will be represented by no fewer than 20 of the lots catalogued for the Japanese Racing Horse Association [JHRA] Select Sale at the Northern Horse Park in early July.

The event in southern Hokkaido is hoping to attract overseas investors, particularly with Deep Impact supplying European Classic winners last year through Saxon Warrior and Study Of Man.

Yoshida, the Heart’s Cry-sired winner of the Woodward Stakes for Bill Mott and also a runner at Royal Ascot and the Dubai World Cup, is one of its most notable graduates.

Deep Impact, who has been champion sire in his homeland for seven consecutive years, has been rested for much of this covering season. He is responsible for 20 of the 247 listed yearlings, and nine of the 226 foals.

Rising star Lord Kanaloa, sire of Japan’s current fan favourite Almond Eye, has 20 yearlings and 16 foals.

Deep Impact’s offerings include a yearling colt out of Jioconda (lot 21), making him a half-brother to both the Cheveley Park winner Lightening Pearl and Satono Crown, who beat Highland Reel in the 2016 Hong Kong Vase. From a more international angle altogether is a son of Frankel (41) out of the Nunthorpe winner Margot Did, who has already produced Prix de Sandringham scorer Mission Impassible.

Among the foals are a colt by Kitasan Black out of the former Brian Meehan trainee Donna Blini (338), who has already delivered Sheema Classic and dual Japan Cup star Gentildonna, and a son of Duramente and July Cup winner Fleeting Spirit (364).

The yearling session takes place on July 8, with the foals going through the ring the following day.
