Grangeclare West, one of the most expensive point-to-pointers to have been sold at public auction, made a smooth debut under rules at Punchestown on Saturday.

The Presenting gelding, who was prepared by Denis Murphy to win a maiden at Lingstown in late November, topped the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale when bought by Cheveley Park Stud for £430,000.

He is now trained by Willie Mullins, who launched the career of another huge Cheveley Park sales transfer earlier in the week when the £570,000 Classic Getaway scored at Tipperary.

Grangeglare West was bought by Joey Logan for just €62,000 at the previous year's Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale and he hails from the family of the smart chaser Gunner Welburn.

Jody Townend did the steering on the 2-11 favourite, who was well within himself to win the Ladbrokes INH Flat Race by nine lengths.
