With four of this year’s Festival winners sold at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale, there should be a feeding frenzy over the expansive catalogue of 71 to go through the ring during Friday’s renewal.

Particularly timely is that one of those being offered, Gaelic Park, is a point-winning half-brother to the 2021 Marsh Novices’ Chase winner Chantry House, who made £295,000 in the ring three years ago.

The March additions to its roll of honour also included Arkle star Shishkin, Champion Bumper winner Sir Gerhard and Mount Ida, who landed a gamble in the Kim Muir.

Tattersalls held last year’s event in Newmarket, where a smaller catalogue produced robust figures, albeit a little down from a weighty £89,725 average back at Cheltenham in 2019. Grangeclare West, who subsequently ran away with a Punchestown festival bumper for Willie Mullins and Cheveley Park, proved the star attraction when sold by Denis Murphy for £430,000.

Murphy is among those armed with bright four-year-old prospects here. Shantou gelding Stay Away Fay was a winner a Lingstown, where Shishkin came to prominence, while Getaway mare Dontyawantme broke her duck at Knockmullen House.

Along with consigning Gaelic Park, Patrick Turley has a half-brother to Scottish Grand National winner Wayward Prince named Blackcauseway, who justified a seemingly high reputation when dominating a good race at Kirkistown.

Aside from representatives from most of the best Irish pointing yards, there cannot often have been as diverse a range of vendors.

Top Flat trainer Archie Watson has listed Territories bumper filly Bounce Back, retired Lambourn trainer Charlie Mann’s Neardown Stables offers two French runners in Hermann Clermont and Black Sirius, and Welsh wizard Brian Eckley will be aiming for another fine result with wide-margin Chepstow winner Libberty Hunter, having sold another son of Yorgunnabelucky with a similar profile for £175,000 earlier in the year.

The action gets under way in the Tattersalls Sales Complex after racing at 4pm and you can view the catalogue here.
