Can Frankel and Midday deliver again with Compiegne debutante Daytime?

Compiegne may not be the most prestigious racecourse in France but it plays host to the most blueblooded newcomer anywhere in Europe on Tuesday.

Daytime, a daughter of Frankel and multiple Group 1 winner Midday, is being introduced by trainer Andre Fabre in the Prix de Mercieres, a maiden over 1m4f for three-year-old fillies at the Picardy track (4.45 local time, 3.45 BST).

The Juddmonte homebred is the fourth foal out of her dam, a daughter of Oasis Dream who was sent out by Sir Henry Cecil to win nine races including the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, Yorkshire Oaks, Prix Vermeille and three editions of the Nassau Stakes, and also to finish runner-up in the Oaks, Coronation Cup and Juddmonte International.

All of Daytime's three older siblings have won for Sir Michael Stoute.

Midterm, Midday's first foal by Frankel's sire Galileo, landed the Group 3 Sandown Classic Trial; then came Mori, a filly by Frankel who took the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes and ran second in the Ribblesdale; and the dam's four-year-old offspring Midi, a colt by Frankel, scored in two novice events last summer but was sold to Luke Comer for 65,000gns at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

Midday has a two-year-old filly by Galileo and a yearling filly by the same sire foaled in the US, where she was exported to in 2017. She was subsequently mated with Claiborne Farm kingpin War Front.

Daytime, who will have the assistance of Vincent Cheminaud in the saddle, is the only debutante in the field of 12 for the Prix de Mercieres. Among her rivals is Bletilla, an Al Shaqab homebred daughter of Galileo and Blandford Stakes winner Belle De Crecy who finished fourth on her first start for Pia Brandt at Saint-Cloud this month.

Scat Daddy newcomer at Yarmouth

There are also well-bred newcomers to look forward to on the Flat in Britain on Tuesday, notably in the mile three-year-old novice stakes at Yarmouth (3.35).

Dr Jekyll, trained by David Simcock for Fitri Hay and partners, is from the last crop of the late, great Scat Daddy – source of Lady Aurelia and Justify among many stars – and is the first foal out of Similu, a winning daughter of Danehill Dancer from the illustrious Moyglare Stud family of Dress To Thrill, Free Eagle et al.

His fellow unraced rival Sendeed, a Godolphin colt in the care of Saeed Bin Suroor, is by Shamardal out of Irish and Yorkshire Oaks winner Petrushka, who has not shone brightly at paddocks but has left the decent dual-purpose performer Parlour Games.
