California Chrome is recovering from a bout of enteritis - an inflammation of the small intestine - having arrived in Japan ahead of this year's covering season.

It was announced back in November that JS Company had reached an agreement to buy the chestnut from his ownership syndicate and he would be heading to Arrow Stud.

Twice the US Horse of the Year and a winner of seven Grade 1 races including the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Dubai World Cup, California Chrome had stood his first three seasons at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky.

He was also active in the southern hemisphere breeding seasons in 2017 and 2018 at Sumaya Stud in Chile and arrived in Japan at the start of last month.

The JS Company tweeted a video of the stallion along with the statement: "California Chrome has a minor enteritis after arriving at Arrow Stud and recovering now.

"Fortunately, he eats very well and his condition becomes better day by day. We are looking forward to a chance to show him next month."
