Brown awarded by Goffs UK for brilliant breeze-up buys at Doncaster
Blandford Bloodstock agent sourced Perfect Power, Ardad and Dream Ahead
Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock was presented with the Willie Stephenson Memorial Trophy ahead of the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale in recognition of the agent's contribution to the company's success in 2021.
Brown's record of successful purchases at Goffs UK's breeze-up sales in particular stood out with last season's dual Group 1 winning juvenile Perfect Power the latest in a string of winning horses sourced by the Blandford Bloodstock man at Doncaster.
As well as this year's Greenham winner, Brown bought his sire, the Windsor Castle Stakes winner Ardad, at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up and his previous purchases include the Group 1 winner and sire Dream Ahead.
At last year's sale Brown also picked up the Horris Hill Stakes winner Light Infantry who holds an entry in next weekend's 2,000 Guineas for David Simcock.
Brown was presented with the trophy by Goffs UK chairman Henry Beeby in the sales ring at Doncaster ahead of the 2022 sale. The award, which recognises Willie Stephenson who founded Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (now Goffs UK) and was instigated by Beeby's predecessor as chairman, his father Harry, whose life was commemorated in a service at the sales complex on Wednesday evening.
Commenting on the choice of Richard Brown by the board as the 2021 recipient, Tim Kent, managing director of Goffs UK said:
“Richard has been a great friend to DBS/Goffs UK over the years and it’s entirely appropriate that we present him the Willie Stephenson Memorial Trophy at the very sale from which he has bought so many wonderful horses.
"Perfect Power is one of several headline horses to have come from the sale that Richard has purchased and it’s indeed fitting that it was Richard who bought Ardad’s first Group 1 winner, having bought Ardad in 2016."
Kent added: “Perfect Power continues to do wonders for the Doncaster Breeze-Up Sale following his brilliant Greenham Stakes win on Saturday and there is plenty to look forward to with his Classic 2,000 Guineas clash next month and we wish Richard and connections the very best of luck. We thank Richard for all his support over the years and we are sure he will unearth many more Group 1 talents in the years to come.”
