In addition to the Wood Ditton Stakes, the card on the second day of the Craven meeting features some beautifully bred newcomers.

The three-year-old fillies' maiden (1.15) which gets proceedings under way sees Cheveley Park Stud's Enshrine make her debut. From the first crop of their enormously exciting sire Ulyssess, the homebred filly is a half-sister to Sacred, who won the Nell Gwyn Stakes on the opening day of this meeting last season.

That Exceed And Excel filly went on to win the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes later in the year and they are the first two runners out of Sacred Caroline, a Blame half-sister to the champion and multiple Grade 1 winner Lady Eli.

Another filly having her first start in the opener is Aurora Papillon for Brian Meehan and Anna Sundstrom. The daughter of Starspangledbanner was bred by Rathasker Stud out of their Listed winner and Irish Oaks fifth Aurora Butterfly, one of the best Flat performers sired by Born To Sea.

Aurora Butterfly is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1-placed miler and sire Diamond Green and to Group 2 winner and Classic-placed Diamilina, the second dam of Irish Derby and St Leger winner Capri, by Born To Sea's half-brother Galileo.

An interesting newcomer taking on the once-raced colts and geldings in the novice (4.10) event over ten furlongs is Charlie Appleby's New Approach gelding Cosmic Desert.

He is the first foal out of Listed winner Blossomtime, a Shamardal half-sister to the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis winner Danceteria.

Blossomtime is out of Group 3 winner Bal De La Rose, a Cadeaux Genereux half-sister to leading sire Lope De Vega, by Shamardal.

The aforementioned Wood Ditton Stakes (2.25), for unraced three-year-olds, brings together some fascinating pedigrees with Appleby's sons of Classic performers of particular interest.

Secret State is by Dubawi and a brother to the three-time Listed-winning filly Onassis, whose black-type victories came over seven furlongs and a mile. The 525,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 yearling is also a half-brother to the trainer's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Line Of Duty and to Listed-placed filly Hibiscus.

They are out of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Jacqueline Quest, who was first past the post in the 2010 1,000 Guineas.

A year later Blue Bunting, by Dynaformer, won the Newmarket fillies' Classic for Godolphin before going on to complete a Group 1 hat-trick in the Irish and Yorkshire Oaks. Her son State Event, a Shamardal close relation to the Listed-placed Blue Creek, makes his debut for Appleby too.

Francesco Clemente, the first foal bred by Peter Brant's White Birch Farm out of their 1.2m guineas purchase Justlookdontouch, makes his debut for John and Thady Gosden. The Dubawi colt is a half-brother to the triple Listed winner Abingdon and hails from an outstanding Ballymacoll family; his dam is an unraced Galileo three-parts sister to champion Islington.

Sea The Stars also has two representatives in the contest; I Am The Sea, for William Haggas, is bred on the same cross with Mark Of Esteem as the Prince of Wales's Stakes winner Crystal Ocean, while American Flag sports the silks of owner-breeder Bjorn Nielsen of Stradivarius fame.

Amo Racing's runners have made a fast start to the season and £190,000 yearling Toophan makes his debut for Amo and Roger Varian. The son of New Approach was bred by Jim Bolger and is a brother to Bolger's Round Tower Stakes winner New Treasure.
