Blue-blooded Home Fire set for Friday debut at Musselburgh
Ex-Juddmonte gelding is by Frankel out of Group-winning Hot Snap
Hot Snap, a smart performer from one of Juddmonte's pre-eminent families, will have her first runner as a broodmare in an unlikely setting when Home Fire makes his debut for Nicky Richards in a bumper at Musselburgh on Friday.
Juddmonte ordered elite covers for Hot Snap, a Pivotal mare who was sent off favourite for Sky Lantern's 1,000 Guineas after beating the same rival during an impressive reappearance in the Nell Gwyn. Only ninth in the Classic, she went on to post two more good placed finishes in the Nassau and Blandford Stakes.
Hot Snap is a half-sister to the multi-decorated Midday as well as the likes of Sun Maiden and Midsummer Sun. She was sent twice to Frankel, with her first foal, a filly named Rekindle, not racing but making 170,000gns as a broodmare prospect at Tattersalls.
Home Fire, her second, was prepped but failed to appear in the Juddmonte silks and was instead sold as a three-year-old at Goffs UK in the spring of 2019, where Richards picked him up for £26,000.
We have probably not heard the last of Hot Snap as a Flat broodmare, though. She has a three-year-old filly by Galileo named Star Snap, who was sent to Francis Graffard, an Invincible Spirit two-year-old, Culcor, and will be visiting Kingman this year.
Home Fire faces some more traditionally-bred rivals including Huntingdon winner Arthur's Seat, point-to-point recruit Fruit N Nut and Lucinda Russell's Songofthelark, a Flemensfirth brother to hot bumper performer and very useful chaser Invitation Only.
