Best Solution colt tops opening session of BBAG October Sale at €120,000
Yearling was offered by Gestut Rottgen and sold to trainer Bruno Grizzetti
The first day of the BBAG October Mixed Sale saw Gestut Rottgen's colt by first-crop sire Best Solution top the session when selling to Italian trainer Bruno Grizzetti and Scuderia Incolinx for €120,000.
Best Solution, a two-time Group 1 winner in Germany and winner of the Caulfield Cup in Australia for Saaeed bin Suroor and Godolphin, retired to Gestut Auenquelle in 2020. The son of Kodiac now stands for a partnership of German studs.
The session-topping colt, named Abanos, is out of the Listed winner Alaskakonigin, a daughter of Sternkoenig whose winners include this year's Group 2 Italian Derby scorer Ardakan and Group 3 Preis der Sparkasse-Finanzgruppe winner Alaskasonne.
Alaskakonigin is in turn out of the Unfuwain mare Annouche, a half-sister to Group 2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen winner Aspectus. She is a half-sister to German Oaks third Andrea as well as the Listed-placed Andreas.
First-season sire Havana Grey's red-hot time on the track and in the sales ring continued when the Gestut Karlshof-offered yearling filly called Three Havanas made €80,000 to HFTB Racing Agency.
Out of the winning Diktat mare Three Ducks, a granddaughter of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Three Troikas, she is a half-sister to winners including Three Gracez and Three Duchesses. Three Ducks is herself a half-sister to stakes winner and Group 2-placed Thames as well as another Listed winner in Three Wrens.
Gestut Gorlsdorf sold the third-highest lot of the day when the Sea The Moon colt named Wonderful Boy sold to Thomas Jander for €64,000. A product of Gorlsdorf's German Derby winner, the yearling is out of Wonderful Gorl, a Listed-placed daughter of Areion and Wonderful Filly, a half-sister to two black type performers including Group scorer Wunder.
The sale continues on Saturday from 9am local time.
