Additional Plus 10 scheme races added for two-year-old colts and geldings
The BHA has made 20 class 5 maidens for colts and geldings eligible for the Plus 10 Scheme in the month of June.
Due to the rescheduling of the racing calendar, there are currently no opportunities for colts as no two-year-old races are run at class 2 to 4. In response to this, the BHA has made available the class 5 maidens which would not ordinarily qualify to be Plus 10 races.
The races have been split into northern, Midlands and southern regions to provide opportunities by geographical distance. The races will be spread across 17 different racecourses.
The BHA said in a statement: "Like many others in the sport Plus 10 funding has been put under pressure by the recent period of lockdown.
"However, we believe it is important that opportunities are provided to all participants in Plus 10 and as such some manual additions will be made to the Plus 10 scheme to provide opportunities for two-year-old colts and geldings in June 2020 at class 5 level.
"There remain significant opportunities for fillies and no manual adjustment has been required in this area."
Plus 10 is an industry-funded bonus scheme where qualified two- and three-year-old horses can win a £8,000 (€10,000) bonus on top of prize-money.
The scheme has paid out over 1,700 bonuses since its inception. The bonus is shared between a horse’s registered owners, the payers of the scheme’s first two registration payments (often the breeder and pinhooker), and the trainer, jockey and stable staff. The last bonus races for the scheme will be run in 2021.
