250,000gns Madmansgame set to debut on same card as half-brother Gentlemansgame
The siblings are winning graduates of Donnchadh Doyle's Monbeg Stables
Madmansgame, a half-brother to the Grade 1-placed Gentlemansgame and a 250,000gns purchase by Harold Kirk from the Tattersalls Online December Sale, is set to make his rules debut for Willie Mullins at Navan on Tuesday.
The son of Blue Bresil is the second foal out of the unraced Terimon mare Grainne Ni Maille, a half-sister to Listed-winning hurdler Ryde Back, and is therefore a half-sibling to Gentlemansgame, who runs on the same Navan card in the feature Boyne Hurdle.
Gentlemansgame was picked up by Monbeg Stables for €62,000 from the Tattersalls Ireland June Derby Sale in 2019 before winning his sole point-to-point by five lengths from the subsequent Grade 2-placed Balco Coastal.
The Gentlewave gelding, who was bred by Yorton Farm Stud and Maggie Luck, then sold to Mags O'Toole for €250,000 at the 2020 Tattersalls Cheltenham November Online Sale.
He won his maiden hurdle by 21 lengths on his first start for Mouse Morris before a fine second to Gaillard Du Mesnil in the Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival last season.
The grey was also placed in two further Graded contests that term, including when second at Punchestown.
His year-younger half-brother sold to Monbeg for €80,000 at the Derby Sale and also made a winning start in his point, scoring by three lengths at Boulta in December. He sold to Kirk and Mullins for €250,000 just four days later.
Kirk said after his purchase: "He's a beautiful horse, Willie saw him at Donnchadh Doyle's before the sale and loved him. He has the makings of a top-class staying chaser and he comes from a very good stable. He came highly recommended by Donnchadh and Blue Bresil is a very good sire."
Madmansgame is set to face 14 rivals in the two-mile contest (5.15), notably Landrake, who was third in a bumper behind Facile Vega for Gordon Elliott and is out of a sibling to four black-type performers including Grand National hero Rule The World.
Also in opposition are another Mullins runner in Klarc Kent, a son of Spanish Moon out of a winning half-sister to Grade 2-winning chaser Cerium, and From The Ashes, an Ocovango five-year-old from the family of Ballyholland.
