1. Torquator Tasso states case for German breeding

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe stage was set for a grand finale between Adayar and Hurricane Lane, two sons of Frankel who had plundered the leading middle-distance Classic prizes for Godolphin, and who looked ready to take on the finest contenders Europe had to offer.

Other challengers in a deep field included the Aga Khan's Tarnawa, a multiple top level-winning daughter of Shamardal, and Coolmore's record-breaking Classic heroine Snowfall, herself a product of Deep Impact and a Group-winning full-sister to Found, who had sauntered to impressive victories in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks over the summer.
