Even with two lawyers debating the case for Roksana staying in training to defend her Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle title at the Cheltenham Festival, no arbitration was required.

Nigel and Sarah Faulks had an obvious temptation for her to become a significant new member of their north Devon stud after she took advantage of Benie Des Dieux’s final-flight howler. This model of consistency would be later headed in the dying strides of Aintree’s Stayers Hurdle.

With the eight-year-old still showing the sort of form which entitles her to be considered again in an intriguing event, the couple’s decision to stand by the methodology of breeding to race, rather than vice versa, has been justified.
