Brexit is not all doom and gloom for racing. Sure, there are challenges, but these are avenues that a little creative thinking could develop into real opportunities.

With regard to bloodstock and racehorse movement, Defra [Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs] has been shackled by European legislation. Brussels moves at a glacial pace. Maybe Defra will be able to react quicker on its own to situations like the South African owners and trainers wanting to come here to race.

We must push government to make employment of European stable staff a special case -their horse skills are too valuable to lose. The Racehorse Owners Association committed to that in the president’s speech at our AGM. The BHA and Horsemen's Group must add their voices.
