Stage 17 preview

Four stages and a ceremonial run into Paris stand between Tadej Pogacar and a second successive yellow jersey after an uneventful start to the final week on Tuesday.

Austrian champion Patrick Konrad took the stage victory in perfect isolation as the peloton, including the general-classification contenders, safely trailed in nearly 14 minutes behind.

Sonny Colbrelli and Michael Matthews finished second and third on the stage to narrow the gap to points classification leader Mark Cavendish, who again finished safely inside the time cut.

There promises to be more action from the GC favourites on Wednesday with the second summit finish of this year's Tour atop the Col du Portet awaiting the riders.

The super-category ascent comes hot on the heels of another two first-category climbs and with only one more mountain test in the Pyrenees to follow, time is running out for anyone to attempt to produce something special in the hope of dislodging Pogacar.
