Team news

Ross County
Tom Grivosti and Joe Chalmers are long-term absentees. Goalkeeper Ross Doohan could be handed his debut after joining on loan from Celtic.

Motherwell
Callum Lang, Nathan McGinley, Ricki Lamie and Jordan White are in line to make their debuts for the club. Jake Carroll and Charles Dunne are sidelined until at least September.

Match preview

Motherwell finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season, thanks largely to a fast start that saw them win five of their opening eight matches, and they can come out the blocks firing again as they start their new campaign at Ross County.

Well claimed maximum points in seven of their 15 away assignments last season, including a 2-1 win in Dingwall in December, and Stephen Robinson’s squad has a youthful look to it which should continue to improve.

Striker Chris Long enjoyed an excellent first season in the Scottish top flight, while impressive Irish midfielder Liam Donnelly keeps Well ticking.

Ross County may endure a season of struggle but in Ross Stewart and Billy McKay they possess two proven goalscorers whose presence should at least ensure a home consolation.

Key stat

Both teams have scored in the clubs' last four meetings.
