Fight preview

Shakur Stevenson returns to the ring on Friday but has already lost his WBC and WBO junior lightweight titles after failing to make the 130lbs limit for his clash with Robson Conceicao at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

It has been a meteoric rise for the unbeaten 25-year-old, who has wins over Jeremia Nakathila and Jamel Herring on his CV and was last seen dismantling Oscar Valdez in a unanimous decision win earlier this year.

On that form it's going to be one-way Stevenson traffic, but there is now a slight worry over the conditioning and commitment of the American after the weight issues.

Brazil’s Conceicao, 33, looks a tough opponent but his one loss came at the hands of Valdez towards the end of last year - and that defeat perhaps gives an indication of how this bout will play out.

Conceicao should test the American but there is a gulf in class and the former champion should prevail. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist has never been stopped while three of Stevenson’s last four victories have been convincing points wins, so backing him to win by decision looks the best option.
