One of snooker’s most fun tournaments, the Shoot Out, starts at Leicester’s Morningside Arena on Wednesday and Robert Milkins, who is applying himself better these days, could be one player to prosper in the quick-fire event.

Milkins has had his off-table issues during a long career, but the one-frame Shoot Out format is ideal for the Gloucester cueman to put his best foot forward.

He looked to be on top of his game in the World Grand Prix last week and told his fans that he had high expectations of himself in the Shoot Out.

The random nature of the format means that punters could never rely on promises coming good, but in this instance it may be worth heeding Milkins’ words.

Kyren Wilson and Mark Williams are the 22-1 joint-favourites and the pair are joined in a good field by 25-1 shots Mark Selby, Stuart Bingham and Ding Junhui.

Of those top performers, Williams looks the one who could potentially dominate the event, although punters should know that certain players have their preferred tournaments.

Williams was runner-up in last year’s Shoot Out to Iran’s Hossein Vafaei, who is 40-1 for a repeat triumph.

Michael Georgiou, Shoot Out hero in 2018, is 125-1 to regain the title with Hills, who are betting one-quarter the odds each-way to be in the final four.
