Fight preview

Former world title challenger Anthony Yarde returns to the ring after almost a year away to take on Stefani Koykov at the Telford International Centre on Saturday.

There’s little betting interest with 1-50 Yarde vastly superior to his Bulgarian opponent. But the fight is significant as should Yarde come through it unscathed as expected, he will then be able to focus his attentions on a 2023 bout against unified light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

Liam Davies's clash with Ionut Baluta clash for the vacant European super-bantamweight crown should be an intriguing heat.

Davies claimed the British 122lbs title with a unanimous-decision victory over Marc Leach earlier this year and the Telford fighter is unbeaten in 12 professional fights.

The 26-year-old will have a lively home crowd on side, but Bushey-based Romanian Baluta looks a cut above any rival Davies has faced in the past.

Baluta upset the talented Brad Foster at the York Hall last time out and the tough 28-year-old has also recorded good victories over David Oliver Joyce and TJ Doheny.

The Romanian was beaten by Michael Conlan last year, but Baluta was perhaps a little unfortunate to lose that contest and the Irishman has since gone on to challenge for a world title belt.

It promises to be an entertaining European title scrap and quotes of 13-8 could underrate Baluta’s chances of success.
