Long drought over for Coyle and Guest after torrid spells
During a long hot summer spell not just the ground has been drying up – so have the winners for Malton trainer Tony Coyle, who emerged from his longest barren period with his first winner since January 2.
A dramatic break in the weather proved the key as Broken Spear stormed to a seven-length victory under Barry McHugh in the £15,000 nursery after 7mm of rain before the first race changed the going to good to soft.
"That was badly needed," said Coyle. "It's the longest we've ever gone without a winner but we had two seconds at Beverley on Tuesday so they've turned a corner.
