Emily Moon rockets to impressive success on chase debut
Thurles
Jessica Harrington had been quiet for most of the season but in the past few weeks her string of jumpers have been in excellent form and Emily Moon added another win by impressively landing the mares' beginners' chase at the penultimate meeting of the season at Thurles on Thursday.
The homebred mare from the family of Best Mate had the hurdle rating to win the 2m2f contest, but she put up quite a spectacular performance on her chasing debut, jumping brilliantly for Robbie Power and attacking her fences with relish in handing a 13-length defeat to the progressive Our Roxane, winner of two of her three previous starts in handicap hurdles.
Emily Moon clearly has every chance of surpassing over fences anything she achieved over hurdles, and the trainer's daughter and assistant Kate Harrington said: “Ever since she first jumped a fence at home she has been rapid over them and Robbie thinks she'll be nice when the ground dries out a bit more and she can go two and a half. She hasn't any black type yet and that will definitely be on the agenda.”
