Rain set to end dry week on the Knavesmire

A seven-day period without any rainfall is predicted to come to an end on Friday when warm, balmy weather is set to give way to wet conditions at York.

Clerk of the course William Derby left the ground, which jockeys described as "beautiful" fast going, unchanged at good to firm on Thursday night but warned of the potential significant change to come.

"The forecast is for a front to come through tomorrow," he said. "It's due to be dry overnight and dry in the morning, but then rain from lunchtime - the amount expected is variable, but 5mm-10mm is possible and that would obviously ease the ground.
